Since the end of April, the artwork 'The Splash' by Arttenders x Cindy Bakker has been located in the heart of Rotterdam on the Annie MG Schmidtplein. It is a multifunctional meeting place that is also an iconic eye-catcher for the neighborhood due to its spectacular design. In the middle of the busy city you step into another world, children play, residents catching up and shoppers resting on a diving board, swimming pool, starting block, or paddling in the 'water'.

The project 'The Splash' is a collaboration between design agency Arttenders and artist Cindy Bakker and part of The Shape of Rotterdam. This is a strategy to combine the local needs of residents and entrepreneurs with public development within a design in the public space. It is not for nothing that the artwork was opened just before the start of the Eurovision Song Contest, it is also part of the Rotterdam Make It Happen branding strategy of the municipality of Rotterdam.

The painting on the square by Iwaarden
Iwaarden worked out the blue / white bottom of the swimming pool for production, cleaned the square, sprayed the blue surface and then put the white lines. Project manager Sanne: 'The paintings we make are usually vertical, against a wall, so it's nice to work horizontally, on a square, and to see people walking over it.'

300 m2 of blue painted surface with a long shelf life; Iwaarden made it possible. We are impressed by the many possibilities that Iwaarden offers and the way in which they thought along with us during the process.
